Cyclone Jawad live: Heavy rain lashes Odisha, Bengal
Kolkata and the coastal districts of Bengal could be lashed by intense showers today even as a low-pressure area — a ‘remnant’ of Cyclone Jawad that moved towards the state along the Odisha coast on Sunday evening — nears the Bengal coast at midnight on Sunday. The showers in Kolkata, though, could lose intensity by the second half of Monday and cease completely by Tuesday morning, said the Met office. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over coastal and northern districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts for today. Jobless rate: 11 states hit double digits in January-March
Urban joblessness rates in all age groups in at least 11 states remained in double digits, while it was stubbornly high among 15 to 29 year olds across all states, with this segment’s overall unemployment rate hitting 22.9% in the January-March quarter of 2020-21, latest data showed. In the October-December quarter, 12 states had reported double-digit urban joblessness rates.

Taking up the case of a Maoist leader charged under the tough UAPA law, the Supreme Court on Wednesday held that an undertrial cannot be indefinitely detained in prison if there is a delay in concluding the trial. GST collections touched Rs 1,31,576 crore, the second highest monthly mop up since the introduction of the new tax regime in mid-2017 on the back of strong festival sales.
