A powerful earthquake shook Papua, Indonesia's easternmost region, causing no serious damage. The magnitude 6.5 quake occurred in Abepura, a subdistrict in Jayapura, the capital of Papua province. It was a shallow earthquake with a depth of 10 kilometers. The region is prone to earthquakes due to its location on the "Ring of Fire". In February, another earthquake in the province resulted in the collapse of a floating restaurant, causing four deaths. Indonesia has a history of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, with past disasters claiming many lives.
